Fraser River Tunnel Project

The Project

The Fraser River Tunnel Project is a $4.18 billion project to replace the existing George Massey Tunnel. The project is located on the Fraser River between the cities of Richmond and Delta in British Columbia. The new crossing will consist of an eight-lane immersed tube tunnel which includes a central multi-use path and two lanes dedicated to transit. In addition to the new tunnel, a significant bridge is required at the South end of the new crossing requiring approximately 10 kilometers of modifications to Highway 99. The new tunnel will be designed to provide lifeline seismic performance and to allow the transportation of dangerous goods.
