George Massey Crossing Project

Overview

  • The Province of British Columbia

  • $3.5 B

  • Richmond,, BC

  • September 2014-ongoing

The Project

The George Massey Tunnel is a key component of the regional and provincial transportation system, carrying more than 80,000 vehicles each day. In response to growing concerns about the impact of congestion, and recognizing that the existing tunnel has about 10 years of useful life remaining, the Province of British Columbia has committed to constructing a replacement. With a consensus that people want a new bridge on the existing Highway 99 corridor, the next step in the project is to prepare a more detailed project scope and business case. Subject to environmental review, construction is expected to begin in 2017, to ensure Highway 99 continues to meet the growing needs of communities, businesses and stakeholders that rely on this crossing.
