Project Background
The Trans-Canada Highway 1 is the primary east-west connection through British Columbia. It is BC’s main gateway to the rest of Canada, and a vital route for travel, tourism and trade. Upgrading the 337 kilometers of Highway 1 between Kamloops and the Alberta Border to a modern, 100 km/h, four-lane standard, will allow traffic to move more safely and efficiently. Communities will be better connected, and businesses will be better able to move their products throughout the province, through the ports and beyond the BC borders.
This Project is a long-term effort, comprising multiple individual Projects planned over many years to ultimately provide a single safe route across BC. The province is committed to delivering this Project and has committed $650 million over 10 years to do so.
